Society of Apostolic Life

A Society of Apostolic Life is a group of men or women within the Catholic Church who have come together for a specific purpose. These Apostolic Societies may look like Religious Institutes but their members do not take vows as ‘religious’. Members may take vows for only one year at a time and  the vows  follow the particular apostolic purpose of the Society.  Their members lead a life in common according to a particular manner of life and they live their lives guided by the Societies Constitutions.

The groups that belong to the Societies of Apostolic Life are:

  • Columban Fathers - St Columban's Mission Society (SSC)

  • Daughters of Charity - Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul (DC)

  • Trustees of Mary Aikenhead Ministeries

  • Oblate Apostles of the Two Hearts (OATH)

  • Pallotines - Society of the Catholic Apostolate (SAC)

  • Priestly Fraternity of St Peter (FSSP)

  • Vincentians - The Congregation of the Mission (CM)
